Tips for a More Successful SMS Campaign

Guest Author, Krisit Munno

Young businessman sending a text in office
SMS campaigns have become a popular marketing tactic over the past few years due to the rise in mobile devices. Many companies are realizing that they can reach their audience quickly and efficiently through the use of mobile marketing, and SMS campaigns are one of the most used methods.

SMS is popular because it keeps the marketing strategy simple. SMS is simply text based, so there is no need for code or graphics to be created. Users are limited to 160 characters of text, which forces them to keep the message simple and to the point.

Some people think that an SMS campaign is easy, but just sending out messages to mobile devices is not going to have an impact on your audience unless you do it right. The following are four tips to help you create the best SMS campaign.

1. Choose the right text-in number.

In order to create an audience for your SMS campaign, you need to have an audience sign up to receive your messages. You can do this by letting people sign up on your website or by sending in a text. For this, you will need to create a text-in number. This is the short number that people send their texts to (instead of a phone number).

You have the option of choosing a short code or a long code as well as using a random set of numbers or a vanity code. Make sure you choose the option that is best for your campaign and your budget.

2. Promote your efforts.

Your SMS campaign is not going to be successful unless you create an audience to receive your messaging. For this reason, you need to promote your campaign in order to get people to opt in for it. Place a sign up on your website. Create advertisements and place them throughout your store. Push notifications out through you social media channels. Make sure that your audience knows about your campaign and what they’ll get for signing up for it.

3. Provide value.

Your SMS campaign will only find success if you plan out your strategy and determine what type of value you will give your subscribers. Will you be using SMS to provide your audience with a discount on your products and services? Will you use it to let them know about upcoming events they can attend? You need to determine your purpose, and then give your audience a reason to sign up. If they don’t feel as if they’ll gain anything from signing up to receive your messages, it will deter them from signing up in the first place.

4. Track your success.

You need to make sure that you are tracking your SMS campaign. Take note of the messages that are being opened. If you’re offering a discount, pay attention to those that are redeemed. When you track the success of your campaign, you can learn what tactics and what messages are getting the most results. This way, you can tailor your campaign so that you’re constantly providing your audience with the information they desire.

SMS campaigns are a very popular marketing tactic. Though they’re simple to use, it’s important that you implement the right tactics to ensure that your campaign is a success.

Why Home Business: The Untold Benefits

Working from HomeMore people are jumping on the home business bandwagon in recent years. What are the benefits of doing home business besides being convenient and cost saving?

1. Personal freedom

Working at home requires no dress code, no rigid work schedules and no company cultures. Instead, you can work and earn money at your own pace, at the comfort of your home. This allows you to gain control of your personal life while not losing a source of income – the best of both worlds! It is necessary however for a home business owner to be self-disciplined and motivated to maintain the momentum at work.

2. Experience enrichment

Home business owners need to play many roles at once, from being the CEO, the financial planner, the researcher, the marketing manager and the sales manager. This is especially true for those solo owners who have to learn how to do everything on their own. While this also means greater workload, you get to see the whole picture of your home business and make better plans to achieve your goals.

3. Increased competitiveness

As the overhead cost of a home business is low, you can now offer quality products or services at a lower cost, making your products and services more competitive in the market. In addition, small home business is more able to provide clients with personalised services that cater to their specific needs compared to large commercialised businesses.

4. Lower risk

Home business frequently requires low capital to start up and is also cheaper to maintain. This protects the home business owners from their life-time savings should the business idea fails. It also allows business owners to test out new business ideas before deciding to invest large amount of money in it.

5. Reduced stress

Being able to work from home allows you to plan for both your work and your family. This is especially true for parents of school-age children as they do not need to juggle between work and taking care of their children.

Do You Know the Basics of Analyzing Your Website Traffic?

Statistical analysis of web traffic can be a valuable tool for a number of different reasons. But before you make full use of this tool, you need to understand how to interpret the data.

Most web hosting companies will provide you with basic web traffic information that you then have to interpret and make pertinent use of. However, the data you receive from your host company can be overwhelming if you do not understand how to apply it to your particular business and website. We can begin by examining the most basic data - the average visitors to your site on a daily, weekly, and monthly.

Web Analysis Statistics1

Web Analysis Statistics for March, 2012

These amounts are the most accurate measure of your website traffic activity. It appears as more traffic is recorded, the better you can assume website do, but it is an inaccurate perception. You also have to look at the behavior of your visitors once they arrive at your website to accurately measure the effectiveness of your site.

There is often a great misconception about what is known as, “hits” and what is really effective, quality traffic your site. ‘Hit’ means that the number of requests for information received by the server. If you think about the fact that a hit only to equate the number of images per page, you'll get an idea of how exaggerated the concept of ‘hits’ can be. For example, if your homepage has 15 graphics, the server reports it hit 15 times, when in reality we are talking about a single visitor checking out a single page on your site. As you can see, ‘hits’ are not useful in assessing your website traffic.

Web Analysis4

Web Analysis Statistics

More and more visitors coming to your website, then the more accurate your interpretation will become. The more traffic on your website creates a more accurate assessment of overall trends in visitor behavior. With a smaller amount of visitors, the more a few anomalous visitors can distort the analysis.

The goal is to use statistical web traffic to know how well or how poorly your site is working for your visitors. One way to determine that is to find out how long the average visitors stay on your site. If time spent is relatively brief, it usually indicates a problem with it. The challenge is then to find out what the problem is that calls for them to leave.

It could be that your keywords will be directed to the wrong type of visitors of your website, or that your graphics are confusing or intimidating, causing the visitor to exit rapidly. Use knowledge of how much time visitors spend on your site to determine the specific problem, and then to fix the problem, continue to use time spent as a measure of how effectively you have to be setup.

In addition, statistical web traffic can help you determine your websites’ effective and ineffective areas. If you have a page that you believe is important, but visitors leave it rapidly, that page needs attention. You can, for example, consider improving the links to this page by making it more visible and interesting, or you can enhance the look of the page or the ease that your visitors will be able to access the necessary information on the page.

If, on the other hand, I noticed that the visitors will spend a lot of time on pages that you think is more important, you might consider moving some of your sales copy and marketing focus to a specific page.

As you can see, these statistics will show important information about the effectiveness of individual pages, and visitor habits and motivation. This is important information for any successful Internet marketing campaign.

Your website you will no doubt have exit pages, such as the final order or contact form. This is the page that you can expect your visitor to exit rapidly. However, not every visitor to the site you will find what he was looking for, so statistics may show a number of different exit pages. This is normal unless you notice a trend out on a particular page is not intended as an exit page. In this case a significant percentage of visitors will checkout your website page is not designed for that purpose, you should closely examine a particular page to see what the problem. Once you determine potential weaknesses on that page, minor changes in content or graphic may have a significant impact on visitors to keep moving through your site instead of leaving through the wrong exit page.

Web Analysis2

Web Analysis: Entry & Exit Pages Statistics

Once you have evaluated your visitor statistics, it is time to turn to your keywords and phrases. Notice if particular keywords manage certain types of visitors to your site. More targeted the visitor - meaning that they will find what they are looking for your site, and even better, fill out your contact form or make a purchase - the more valuable that keyword.

However, if you see a large number of visitors is a direct - or should I say misdirected - to your site with certain keywords or phrases, keyword demands adjustment. Keywords are vital to bringing quality visitors to your site who are ready to do business with you. Close analysis of the keywords your visitors used to find your site will give you a vital understanding of your visitor, its needs and motivations.

Web Analysis3

Web Analysis: Keywords (Search Terms) Statistics

Finally, if you notice that users are finding your website by typing in your company name, open the champagne! This means you have achieved a significant level of brand recognition, and it's a sure sign of growing success.
